Aaron's home network - home.traas.org

Ok... here I'm going to take notes and stuff about the construction of my home network. Pictures and descriptions to follow.

I had CAT6E UTP run all over my house by an electrician (I tried first myself, but failed. The electrician told me years later that my house was the single most difficult and irritating job he'd ever taken. More at another time), alongside RG6 coax, and audio-grade STP for speakers. It all terminates into a server closet in my basement, which I had just finished patching down on a trio of patch panels (haven't done the STP yet...)

ANYway, here's the port layout:

That's all for now... if you have any recommendations for a good XLR or TRS patch panel for the STP, please let me know.

Currently, I'm using an ActionTec router that came with my FIOS service as router/firewall/wireless. It kinda stinks, but does the job. I'm planning on configuring it to just pass everything off to another router that I install OpenWRT onto. I need to first pick and buy a cheap router from their hardware list. If anyone has any advice, please let me know! I'm leaning toward the ASUS WL-500g Premium.
